Trying on wedding dresses for the first time- an experience.

So with this whole planning a wedding thing, I decided that I would, either once a week or biweekly, write a post about my experiences and or/ any updates on what I’ve got to focus on for the week as far as planning our wedding goes. For this “Wedding Wednesday” I wanted to talk about my first time trying on wedding dresses.

This past Sunday, my sister, mother, future mother-in-law, and I went to a bridal shop for a wedding dress fitting. It was a lot of fun, and we did have a good time sipping champagne as I was helped in and out of a variety of dresses but at the end of the day, I left feeling very bummed.

Let me explain why- right off the bat, I showed the lady who was scheduled to work with me for my appointment, a few pictures of the style of dress I was looking to find. NOT A SINGLE OPTION SHE BROUGHT FIT THE BILL. When I reminded her of this, she told me that “any dress can have fabric added to it and can be styled differently and to your needs.” And that kind of frustrated me, because the whole point is to be trying on the dress in the specific style so that I can see what it looks like and how it fits. I don’t want to put on an entirely different dress and then just have to “make up” how I think it would look with extra fabric ( in my case, sleeves and a higher neck line).

So that was a bit of a bummer to say the least.  This weekend we have a few more appointments at different bridal shops so hopefully round two goes over a bit smoother! Fingers crossed!

Anyone else out there have a not so good first time trying on wedding dresses? One of my best friends has been reminding me that it happened to her too and to not let it get me down or leave me feeling like I’m never going to get the dress I want (which is literally what I complained to her about for hours after Sunday’s fiasco).

Well, heres to a happy, the week is almost over, Wednesday!

xoxo,

Amanda

  1. I was very lucky and found my dress on the first appointment. It was actually the first one I picked out! But to maybe help the experience, look at it like this: you will never go shopping for wedding dresses again so try and enjoy each and every dress you put on, even if it’s not your style. That’s what I did and I had a blast! Good luck finding your dress. Sounds like you have a very specific look you’re searching for. 🙂

    • Thats crazy good luck! And thank you for saying that, that’s very true. I should love the entire process because I’m a very lucky girl to even be looking at wedding dresses to begin with! 🙂
