Healthy Habits I Stick Too

I think it’s pretty safe to say that health is something important to all of us. Being an athlete all my life, it’s been a topic that was engrained in me from an early age, especially that of physical and mental health and their connection to fitness. I knew to perform my best, I had to keep my body healthy and moving.

These are a few things I’ve always done and things that have helped me stay healthy and just feel good over all.

+ Always Eat Breakfast : Even if I’m running late or am in a rush, I always make a point to eat something. Even if it’s toast and a banana or something simple like a granola bar. Eating breakfast gets your metabolism running for the day ahead.

+ Cook In : Monday-Thursday and Sunday nights we always eat in and cook dinner at home. Friday and Saturday nights mean we usually have plans that involve eating out with friends. Cooking in allows you to control what you’re eating and what is going in your food, which is always a good thing! The one good thing coming out of this quarantine is that we’ve been eating in for every meal and learning a lot of new recipes!

+ Include a fruit or veggie with every meal : And if you can’t, make sure you include a snack that requires one of the two! I keep our fridge stocked with fresh blueberries and grapes and have bananas on hand always.

+ Workout 3-4x week for at least 30 min : I try to workout 5x a week, but if I get out of clinic late and have had a long day, it might end up being 3-4x.  My biggest tip with working out is to always listen to your body and don’t push it past the limit, you don’t want any injuries!

+ Zen Out : Find something that allows you to just relax. Every day you should be able to have a moment of self care where you can just center yourself and appreciate what you have. For me, my zen time comes when I’m painting my nails, doing a face mask, or reading a book.  It’s just meant to be a time where you’re not worried or thinking about anything else except relaxing.

+ Take your Vitamins : These are the supplements I take everyday. As always, do your research or talk with your doctor before taking any medications, supplements, or vitamins.

+ Unplug : This is something I definitely could be better at. But at the end of the day, I try to leave my phone in the bedroom and just focus on whatever we’re doing or watching on tv without the distraction of having to check my phone.

+ Get Enough Sleep: I definitely am that person who needs 8 hours of sleep or else my day is going to be rough. We’re in bed by 10 pm basically every night.

What are some things you do to stay healthy and happy? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

  1. I am definitely someone who likes to be in bed early too if I know I have to be up early – I need sleep to function! Something that is really important for me is having coffee in the morning as I really enjoy the taste and it helps me feel ready for the day. xx

  2. I used to be a fanatic about eating breakfast every morning, but I did intermittent fasting to lose weight leading up to my wedding and haven’t really returned to my strict breakfast intake. I’ve instead started listening to my body more intently. I’ve started drinking decaf coffee (in place of food) most mornings and eat a snack around mid morning to tie me over until lunch. It seems to be working for me for this time in my life.
