One of my favorite places for a quick weekend getaway is Palm Springs. I feel so lucky that we live only 2 hours away! Heading out to the desert has become something of a summer tradition for Joey and I and I really look forward to it every summer. Last year, we were only able to head out for literally 24 hours because of Joey’s soccer schedule-to read my quick-24 hour list of to-dos in Palm Springs, you can go back to that post by clicking here! And now that I’m looking back on it, I miss my long hair SO MUCH!!!!
This trip was one of the best. We headed out Friday night and were able to spend all of Saturday and Sunday enjoying the desert. We got to our hotel around 11:00 pm and immediately knocked out. We were both so tired from the entire day of work and then the 2 hour drive. Also, if anyone needs any Amazon prime recommendations, I (as Joey drove) watched the movie Two Night Stand and it was actually super good!

Saturday morning we got up and went to breakfast with Joey’s mom at a place called Louise’s Pantry. It was so good! I had the German baked apple waffle and it was literally to die for. I’m wishing I had some as I’m writing this! If you’re looking for an amazing spot definitely try it out!
The rest of the day was spent relaxing by the pool. I’ve completely lost that beautiful Florida tan and am really working hard on getting it back! Not so easy in the June gloom we’ve been having in California though. And I am so excited to say that I FINALLY finished the book I STARTED READING IN MIAMI!!! I feel like such a success to finally be able to say that. Does anyone else just feel SO much better once they finish a book?
Saturday night, as per tradition, we went out for a double date night with Joey’s parents to Kobe’s Steakhouse. It’s a teppanyaki style restaurant where they cook in front of you and the food is always delicious.

SOOOOO the part I’ve been really looking forward to discussing with you all is just how my Sunday morning began. I went to bed Saturday night thinking, “yay, I cannot wait to sleep in tomorrow, go out for a nice breakfast, and then spend the afternoon at my favorite zoo.”
THIS COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY FURTHER THAN WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
I was shakingly woken up at 6 FREAKING AM because my loving fiance (who woke up to do a time-lapse of the sun rising over the desert mountains) thought it would be a great idea if I jumped into the pool before there was anyone down there for some cool video “shots.” Now you’ll have to watch the video to help me determine whether or not it was worth it.
So Sunday actually went a little more something like this: “Gets waken up at 6 am, jumps in FREEZING cold pool multiple times for “the shot”, goes back to hotel room, takes a warm shower, gets ready and then goes to nice breakfast, then spends day at favorite zoo ever.” We had breakfast the second day at our traditional spot, Wilma and Frieda’s. Another place I would highly recommend!
Feeding the giraffes are always my favorite way to start the day at The Living Desert.
You’ll have to watch the video above to let me know if my 6 am sacrifice was worth it lol and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be sure to let me know. Mr. Franco and I have a little bet going lol.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Father’s Day!
xoxo,
Amanda
I’m kind of torn on my decision about the pool shots… on one hand, I think they look great! On the other, I was expecting more. Not sure that will help in settling your bet, but there you go. Looks and sounds like you guys had a great time!
