I shared on Instagram a little bit ago that I usually do a little Halloween movie marathon for the month of October. I watch a few with my daughter when we’re having quiet time while my son is napping and/or as a family all together at night! A few of you wanted to know what generally makes my list so I thought I’d share it over here!
I love to plan little family movie nights where we can throw one of these movies on and then do something like cookie decorating, haunted house gingerbread houses from Trader Joes, and pumpkin painting of course! Or if I’m having a little solo night, I’ll watch one while I’m scrapbooking or coloring one of my cozy Halloween coloring books!
These are my go-tos and favorites to watch this time of year- granted, not all are kid friendly so those I save for myself at night after the kids have gone to sleep!
+ Hocus Pocus : the OG is like the absolute best Halloween movie of all time. Now we have the second movie too which I’ll throw on because my daughter actually really loves it, but IMO it doesn’t even come close to the first one!
+ The Nightmare Before Christmas : not exaggerating, we probably watch this movie about 100 times throughout the month of October and regularly play the playlist in the car and kitchen most evenings! We love good ol Jack!
+ HalloweenTown : the theme song really brings me back to my own childhood and I love hearing it. I always watch the original but will throw on the sequels every once in a while in the background too.
+ Practical Magic : I’m so excited to have a little GNO to see the new one soon!
+ Casper The Friendly Ghost : I recently did a rewatch of this with my daughter, I showed it to her for her first time and she loved it! I forgot how cute of a movie it is!
+ Casper Meets Wendy : the film that launched Hilary Duff’s career!
+ Sleepy Hollow : I’m a die hard Johnny Depp fan, so this movie of course I watch every fall!
+ The Addams Family : is there a more iconic Halloween family?? Now there’s an animated version that we put on too!
+ Gossip Girl : At night, I’ll throw on Gossip Girl throughout the Fall seasons, if there’s one holiday that Gossip Girl made famous, its definitely Thanksgiving.
+ Edward Scissorhands : another iconic Johnny Depp film!
+ Double, Double Toil & Trouble : a iconic Mary-Kate and Ashley movie! I can remember being obsessed with this movie as a kid. I can’t wait to watch with my daughter this year!
+ Haunted Mansion : I actually like the newer one better than the Eddie Murphy version!
+ Hotel Translyvania : such a cute kid friendly movie!
+ The Corpse Bride : this is actually on my list for a Halloween costume one day!
What are some of your favorite movies for the spoooky season?
I also want to be very clear, Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday and favorite time of year BUT I do not do scary or gorey things, so you will not catch me watching SAW or anything of that sort. I like my scary to be PG and cozy, not creepy, if you know what I mean 🙂
