THIS IS HALLOWEEEEENNNN!
So I’m not going to lie, I think this has been my favorite costume to date and I’m not entirely sure how I’ll ever top it. Avery started to really get into the Nightmare Before Christmas last year and the obsession has been going strong every since. She loves the ride at Disneyland, sings the songs all October, and LOVES everything related to Jack Skellington. She could not stop laughing when she saw Joey all dressed up as Jack! So when I decided we would do Nightmare for Halloween 2024, she was very on board.
After Halloween last year, I vowed to really commit because I felt like last years’ costume was a total dud, and also very quickly and poorly done thanks to me being in the midst of morning sickness and just all those great first trimester things (refresher, we did Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and Wendy and I just kinda threw together some outfits last minute because I actually hated that I was almost about to skip Halloween -__-).
So at least in my mind, I’ve made up for 2023 and have now come to peace with it lol.
Without further ado, let’s jump into the details! I will link what I can as well for each look!

Jack
For Joey’s Jack costume, we used one of his old suits and I painted the strips on with fabric paint. When I say this took me forever, it really did. But I had fun watching Halloween movies as I did it once the kids were asleep at night!
He threw on a plain white button up underneath and then I made the bat bow with foam from Michael’s and just hot glued it onto an old hair clip of mine 🙂
For the clip, I used two pieces of foam paper and cut the face using one, and then the wings with the other. Than using the same fabric paint, painted the stripes on.

+ black foam (I bought two different sizes from Michael’s in person, but this pack looks like it comes with a variety)
+ black skeleton gloves (this is the exact set I ordered, it came with two pairs and Joey wore the shorter gloves)

Sally
I used a dress I already had and painted the design on it, the front and back! I will link the paint set I used so if you’re interested you can use the same one- it came with all the best colors! For the tights and the turtleneck, I used a blue fabric marker and had Joey draw on the stitches while I was wearing them.

+ wig (super comfy!!)
+ tights
+ turtleneck (linking the exact one I bought, but it looks like the light blue color is sold out), linking a similar one here.
+ blue gloves (because I’m a maniac for the details, I used nail polish to paint on fingernails while I was wearing the gloves)
+ black and white striped socks
+ blue face makeup (I used blue eyeshadow that I already had around my eyes, and used a blue eyeliner pencil that I also already had to draw on the face stitches)

Zero
Everything that I’m linking is sized for a toddler, but you could probably easily find similar items in adult sizing if you needed too!
+ white dress (for an adult, I’d probably do a white tutu with a bodysuit and white tights)
+ leggings
+ white gloves (I got the size 4-7 yrs and they fit Avery pretty well!)
+ headband (I bought white felt and cut it into the shape of Zero’s ears and then hot glued it to the headband!) I used white foam paper behind the felt to help it keep shape as well.
+ face paint : used this kit to give Avery some white cheeks and then her pumpkin nose!
+ collar: I bought pink sparkly ribbon from Michael’s and then cut it into a choker for Avery to wear. (linking a similar ribbon here)

Frog’s Breath
* I’m aware it might have took some of you a little bit to understand this part of the family costume. And to that I say, you clearly have not watched the movie enough, which leads me to this, are we even really friends?? I made a very purposeful choice here, I know the easy route would have been to make Jaxson Oogie Boogie but let me defend myself– one, I will never make my precious baby boy the villian, and two, I approach our Halloween costumes with an idea that I am presenting a more “real life” idea of a character/s. I like the costume to make sense top to bottom, and when thinking up our costumes, I thought it would be ridiculous for Jaxson to be Oogie. I knew I would obviously have to hold Jaxson in the photos and Sally does not ever hold Oogie Boogie, so that was what kinda immediately made it a no for me. It wouldn’t make sense in my “real life” idea of the costume. And then after watching the movie for the thousandth time with Avery, I realized it would be so perfect to make him the frog that Sally has in the kitchen when she is making the soup to poison her scientist father! So there lol. There’s my explanation and after reading, maybe you’ll appreciate my choice a little more lol.
For the costume, I bought a little onesie and Joey painted the “Frog’s Breath” on the front to match the font and style of the can from the movie. Then I painted the little frog eyes on the beanie. The beanie (linked below) actually came with mittens as well but we didn’t use them.
And there you have it! I absolutely loved creating our costumes and had so much fun this Halloween! Avery is just as Halloween obsessed as I am (which I love) and I will say, from here on out, she’s making all the decisions on what we dress up as. She actually already decided on next years’ costumes, so we’ll see if it sticks!! Not giving any spoilers away though 😉

What were you for Halloween this year?
