My second pregnancy was not an easy one, to say the least. Baby boy put me through it! And he put me through it for a full 41 weeks!! At my 40 week appointment, my OB and I decided that if baby boy decided he would continue to stay warm and cozy in my belly for another week, that at that 41 week mark, I would be induced. To be honest, I begged her to just keep me at the hospital that day and induce me then but she insisted on giving him another week to make his debut naturally. My intuition told me that it was not going to work out that way and actually left the appointment crying because I was SO over being pregnant and could not imagine going another week, but I survived and we made it to 41 weeks, as I expected.
I will say, having the induction scheduled was actually nice in that we had coverage put in place for our daughter and had a schedule with who was coming over when, who was going to pick her up from school, all the things. (Shoutout to her amazing Godparents and their 2 kids of their own for coming and staying 48 hours with our little Avery while we were in the hospital!)
We had help come to the house at 6:30 am to stay and watch Avery on the monitor so that she could sleep in and also because I did not want to deal with the emotions of seeing or saying goodbye to her prior to going to the hospital. It was easier for me leaving knowing that she was still sound asleep and cozy in her bed. I checked in at the hospital at 6:45 am and was in my room and IV’d by 7 am. Joey stayed with me till around 8 am and then went back home to relieve our help and to be there for when Avery woke up to take her to school.
He dropped her off at school around 10 am and then made it back to the hospital in time for them to increase the pitocin. I had actually already started having contractions (which I thought were just Braxton Hicks), when they checked me in, so they gave me some time to see if they would get closer on their own without the pitocin. They didn’t and since my husband made it back to the hospital, we decided it was go time!
My OB came in shortly after and broke my water and then around noon, the contractions were getting painful and pretty close together, so I decided it was time for the epidural. Also, they had a scheduled C-section at 12:30 pm so they told me the anesthesiologist wouldn’t be available till probably 1:30 pm if I chose to wait. That was a big hell no to me- listen, I don’t want to suffer if I don’t have too and I respect and appreciate modern medicine LOL so I was ready to be drugged up the second it was available to me.
Around 5:30 pm, 5:26 to be exact, I was 10 cm dilated and ready to start pushing. Little man was born at 5:57 pm on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024!
Labor and delivery went smoothly and we are both healthy and very happy!

We stayed in the hospital that night and decided we wanted to go home the next day so that we could get back to our daughter! We were discharged around 7:30 pm on the 16th and got home after picking up food and my medications (ibuprofen) from the pharmacy, around 9 pm.
So far, we are surviving over here and loving our little newborn bubble! More updates to come soon!
