My favorite Los Angeles hike

A little appreciation  post for my favorite place in the world, home sweet home.

There are tons of different hikes in California, most of which I hope to write about and visit while I’m home. I know I’ve complained about this before, but Florida had absolutely zero “hikes,” the kind that take you up steep hills, down others, across valleys, etc.  So I’m taking FULL advantage of hiking while I’m home.

The first hike we got too, and my favorite, was that of the famous “Hollywood Sign” hike. I’ve done this hike multiple times but each time is different and without failure, once I hit the top, I realize how beautiful Los Angeles is and how lucky I am to call this city home.

With that, I would like to highlight a specific route on the hike, where you are able get the best view of the sign for the best photo ops. hollywoodsignhikeme

  • Type into GPS Lake Hollywood Park (3160 North Canyon Dr.) and park here!
  • Walk up the hill on Mulholland Drive, follow the road through the residential area.
  • You’ll end up on Mt. Lee Summit, walk around the “wall” and follow the dirt path up.
  • Along the dirt path you’ll vier up and to the left to get that picture perfect view.
  • From here you can continue hiking to get to the top of the mountain and the view from behind the sign.

Of course, most directions will tell you to park towards the Griffith Observatory  and hike starting there. This hike is much, much longer and only takes you to the very top (behind the sign). But it’s still a great hike as well!

Hope you’ll give it a try if you get the chance!

xoxo,

Amanda

  1. Yes you can hike even in LA. Don’t know if you read any of Michael Connelly’s books but the main character Harry Bosch lives I LA and he always describes the nature and wild animals such as coyotes

  2. I think I did the Hollywood sign hike once in my life… we parked somewhere in Griffith Park, not by the observatory or Lake Hollywood Park, but what I really remember was eating empanadas after, so that shows you where my priorities lie 😛

  3. I’ve only ever driven up to the sign and got out of the car, decided it was too far, then took a picture and left lol. It was also almost 100 degrees that day so the air conditioning in the car was calling my name. I’m going to have to try your suggestion one day though, it looks so pretty!

  4. I wanted to do that hike so bad when I went there like 4 years ago. Except when I went with my friends, I guess we were real Cali rooks because we thought we input the correct address and then ended up no where near where we should’ve been lol We did however end up at some beautiful house that overlooked the hollywood sign so I guess that was good enough….Now that I know what to actually put into the GPS (thanks for that), I’ll have to do it on my next visit lol

  5. I’ve only ever seen the Hollywood sign in movies and the occasional photo from someone on social media who’s lucky enough to say they’ve travelled but I’ve never seen it at these angles 🙂 I also wanted to let you know that I just nominated you for the blogger recognition award 🙂

  6. How long does it take to get to the place you took the pic? Just wanting to plan out our trip and the time constraint we have. Thank you!

    • From where we parked to where I took the picture “holding” the Hollywood sign was about a 30 min walk. From there to where you are behind the Hollywood sign was about another 40 min from that point. Your welcome! Have a great trip! 🙂
