Weekending.

Back home in California, we usually spent our Sunday mornings browsing around our local farmer’s market. I absolutely loved my farmer’s market back home. We’d buy our fish for the week (salmon & swordfish), fresh veggies like spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc, and then spend some time browsing the fresh salsa booths, pita booths, tea booth, I can literally go on and on. It was more like a little street fair than a farmer’s market, really. There’d be jewelry and clothing shops set up, floral shops selling orchids, beauty booths selling perfumes and soaps. We’d even eat lunch at one of the local eateries that had space set up. It was such an event and so much fun to see the different booths every weekend.

Unfortunately, because of this I’ve realized I’m SO spoiled when it comes to what I expect from a farmer’s market. And out here in Miami, I just haven’t found a market that compares. Also! I’m not sure if this is normal where you live, but back home in CA, we had farmer’s markets on Sunday mornings. Here in Miami, farmer’s markets are an all day event (10 am-4 pm) and happen ONLY on Saturdays (very different for me).

So we spent Saturday at two different farmer’s markets. The first, called the Coconut Grove Farmer’s Market is famous for its all organic selection. They don’t allow vendors who are not completely organic and vegan to sell at their location. We browsed around for about 15 min and I just knew it wasn’t what I was looking for. It was very small and just felt more like a swap meet/garage sale than a farmer’s market. (And again, I know my standards have been accidentally set a bit high).

We left literally 18 min later and decided to try another one: The Brickell City Center , which was another particularly small farmer’s market but a very good one! They had a little bit more of what I was looking for; fresh flowers, fruits, pita breads, jewelry, and handbags. You could donate blood to the local hospital if you wanted too or even adopt a dog! And they actually had places where you could order something to eat. This turned out to be a BIG plus!

I’ve been searching and searching for a place that makes fresh acai bowls. Have you ever had one? I’m obsessed. The closest one to my house back home was 40 min away and sometimes I would literally make the drive just to grab a bowl and head home. AND AFTER ALL THIS TIME, GUESS WHERE I FOUND/HAD MY FIRST MIAMI ACAI BOWL?!?

You guessed it, the Brickell farmer’s market. This might become a Saturday ritual for me now that I know they exist out here 🙂

We spent the rest of the weekend running around preparing for Thanksgiving. I’m officially cooking my first Thanksgiving Thursday and am feeling pretty excited about it. Hopefully that feeling sticks.

Sunday we got up early to go hit golf balls at the Biltmore Golf Course. I’ve written about the Biltmore Hotel before, if you want to read more about it you can here.

We went to the driving range and hit about 100 balls and yes, my hands hurt. But it was totally worth it!  It was a beautiful day today; with winter coming the humidity ceases to exist and I am overwhelmed with happiness. I’ve actually been able to wear closed toes shoes!

I hope you had a great weekend as well! And here’s to a productive week ahead!

  1. Oh man, California totally spoils you with their farmer’s markets! I miss those so much here in chicago. They only have them here in the summer and are definitely way smaller! Glad you had a good weekend! 🙂
